Nexium is the brand name for the drug Prilosec, which is also known by the brand.
The drug was first approved by the FDA in 2003 and is the first over-the-counter medication to be approved for medical use in the UK. Nexium is available in a 28-count bottle and is packed with the latest in antacids, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory and antifungal treatments.

The causes of and side effects of heartburn are unknown, but it is a common side effect of many medications. It can be caused by a variety of illnesses, from poor dietetics to chemotherapy. Conditions that cause heartburn include a lack of stomach acid due to dieting, or due to overuse of time lost in the gym, or conditions such as celiac disease or asthma.
As we have already seen, Nexium works by blocking an enzyme called "lipase" which helps your stomach and esophagus to break down some of the dietary fat that your body lacks. This fat is then absorbed into the foods and organisms that cause heartburn and our bodies can heal.
In rare cases, Nexium can cause more serious side effects such as, if not treated promptly, and in some cases, death. This is why it is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed and not to exceed the recommended dosage.
Symptoms of an enlarged prostate include frequent urination, weak urine flow or leakage, and a feeling of heaviness in the chest. The symptoms of heartburn are similar to those of other stomach ulcers, and are generally mild and temporary. However, if Nexium is to be used as part of a long-term medical treatment regimen, it is important to inform your N if you suffer from ulcers in the past 10 days, or if you have heartburn during the first 4 weeks of treatment, or if you have heartburn for any reason.

While eating certain foods can help prevent heartburn, it is not recommended that you eat certain foods as it may slow the healing process. It is important to limit your intake of processed meats, including rinses and cuts that contain fat, as they may worsen the symptoms. Try not to eat these foods if you are taking Nexium.

Do not use the medication for more than 14 days in a row without consulting your N if you suffer from heartburn or Nexium is not effective in treating the underlying condition. If you are using Nexium, consult your N if you have heartburn, and if the treatment is to be used as part of a long-term medical treatment regimen.
Nexium Control 20mg Gastro-Resistant Tablets treats heartburn and acid reflux. They are suitable for short-term treatment of reflux symptoms (heartburn, acid regurgitation) in adults, aged 18 or over.
Caution: Do not use if you are allergic to esomeprazole or any of the ingredients of this medicine.

Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“foodpipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. This may cause you symptoms such as a painful sensation in the chest rising up to your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
Do I get instant relief from taking a Nexium tablet?
Nexium Control is not meant to bring immediate relief. You may need to take the tablets for 2-3 days in a row before you feel better. You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 14 days.
How much to take• The recommended dose is one tablet a day. • Do not take more than this recommended dose of one tablet (20 mg) a day, even if you don’t feel an improvement immediately. • You may need to take the tablets for 2 or 3 days in a row before your reflux symptoms (for example, heartburn and acid regurgitation) get better. • The treatment length is up to 14 days. • When your reflux symptoms have completely gone you should stop taking this medicine. • If your reflux symptoms get worse or do not improve after taking this medicine for 14 days in a row, you should consult a doctor. If you have persistent or longstanding, frequently recurring symptoms even after treatment with this medicine, you should contact your doctor. Taking this medicine • You can take your tablet at any time of the day either with food or on an empty stomach. • Swallow your tablet whole with half a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablet. This is because the tablet contains coated pellets, which stop the medicine from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. It is important not to damage the pellets.
Alternative method of taking this medicine• Put the tablet in a glass of still (non-fizzy) water. Do not use any other liquids. • Stir until the tablet breaks up (the mixture will not be clear) then drink the mixture straight away or within 30 minutes. Always stir the mixture just before drinking it. • To make sure that you have drunk all of the medicine, rinse the glass very well with half a glass of water and drink it.
